How to Accept Payment on Instagram in India (2026)

To accept payment on Instagram in India, you take the payment outside the app and send people to it from your bio or DMs, because Instagram has no built-in checkout for Indian sellers. There are three ways to do it: share your UPI ID or QR code, send a gateway payment link from Razorpay, Cashfree or Instamojo, or put a checkout page in your bio that takes payment and delivers the order automatically.
Transparency note: Peerseek is our platform, and it appears in this guide as one of the options. Every other fee below comes from that company's own pricing page, checked on 6 November 2026. Last updated 6 November 2026.
Key takeaways
- Instagram does not process payments for Indian sellers. Meta's own help centre says "Checkout on Instagram is only available in some countries and regions at this time." In India, payment happens on a link or UPI app you control.
- UPI to your own account is free but manual. You check every payment against your bank app and deliver every order by hand. A screenshot from a buyer is not proof of payment.
- A gateway payment link costs about 2% plus GST. On a ₹999 sale you keep about ₹972 to ₹976 with Razorpay, Cashfree or Instamojo, and payment is confirmed for you. Delivery is still your job.
- A checkout page in your bio does the whole sale. The buyer pays by UPI or card, gets the file, booking or course on their own, and you get a dashboard of who paid. On Peerseek that costs a flat 5% with payment processing included, and Instagram Auto DM is free.
- Use your DMs to send the link, not to collect money. The fastest setup is a comment keyword that sends your checkout link in a DM automatically.

Can you accept payment directly on Instagram in India?
No. Instagram lets people buy inside the app only where its checkout is switched on, and Meta's help page on accepted payment methods says checkout "is only available in some countries and regions at this time". Payments on Instagram run through Meta Pay, per its Payments in Instagram help centre.
Three different things get mixed up here, even in some AI answers:
- Instagram paying you. Gifts on reels, subscriptions and bonuses are Meta's own creator programmes. Meta pays you out on its schedule. That is not you selling something.
- You paying Instagram. The UPI and netbanking options you may see in Meta's help centre are for paying for ads. Meta's page on ad payment options lists UPI as a manual method for ad accounts set to India and rupees. They do not let followers pay you.
- Your followers paying you. A consultation, an ebook, a course seat, a custom order. Instagram is where they find you, but the payment happens on UPI or a payment page outside the app.
This guide is about the third one. If you want the wider picture of what to sell first, start with how to monetize Instagram in India.
Three ways to take payment from Instagram
| Method | Buyer pays by | Fee per sale | Who confirms the payment | Who delivers | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UPI ID or QR code in DMs | Any UPI app | ₹0 | You, in your bank app | You | Your first few sales |
| Gateway payment link (Razorpay, Cashfree, Instamojo) | UPI, cards, netbanking, wallets | About 2% + GST | The gateway | You | Custom orders and one-off amounts |
| Checkout page in your bio (Peerseek) | UPI, cards, netbanking | 5%, processing included | The platform | Automatic | Sessions, digital products, courses, paid questions |
1. UPI ID or QR code
You send your UPI ID or a QR code in the DM, the buyer pays from Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or any UPI app, and you deliver once the money shows up.
It costs nothing, and every Indian buyer already knows how to do it. The cost is your time. You match each payment to a name, chase people who said "paid" and did not, and send every file or meeting link yourself. It also leaves no record of who bought what, which hurts the day you want to sell to the same people again.
Use it to test whether anyone will pay at all. Move off it once you have more than a handful of orders a week.
2. A gateway payment link
What is a payment link? A payment link is a web address from a payment gateway that opens a checkout for a set amount. The buyer pays by UPI, card or netbanking, and the gateway confirms the payment to you.
Razorpay, Cashfree and Instamojo let you create a link for any amount and paste it in a DM. The buyer can pay by UPI, card, netbanking or wallet, and the gateway tells you when the payment succeeds.
From their own pricing pages on 6 November 2026:
- Razorpay: 2% + GST per successful payment on its standard plan, with no setup fee or annual maintenance charge. Payment Links are included at the same rate, per its pricing page. Its pricing page also explains that UPI carries no bank charge, but the 2% still applies as a platform fee. The page currently advertises a 0% offer for a new account's first 90 days; check the conditions when you sign up.
- Cashfree: a platform fee of 1.95% under a festive offer that runs until 31 March 2027, against a listed 2.0%. GST is extra.
- Instamojo: payment links at 2% + ₹3 per transaction, with GST charged on top.
You sign up and finish the gateway's KYC before you can take live payments. After that, payment is confirmed for you, but two things stay with you. First, a confirmed payment is not money in your bank yet: the gateway settles it to your account on its own cycle. Second, the gateway does not know what you sold. You still email the PDF, share the meeting link or add the person to the group yourself.
3. A checkout page in your bio
What is a checkout page? A checkout page is a page for one offer, such as a call or an ebook, that shows the price, takes the payment and delivers the order to the buyer automatically.
A creator platform gives each thing you sell its own page with the price, a description and a pay button. The buyer pays, and the platform delivers: the download arrives, the slot gets booked, the course unlocks. You see every buyer in one dashboard.
This is the one to use when you sell the same thing again and again: a consultation, a template pack, notes, a cohort seat, a paid question. It is also the only option where the sale finishes while you are asleep.
What you keep from a ₹999 sale
On a ₹999 sale, a creator in India keeps ₹999 with direct UPI, about ₹972 to ₹976 with a gateway payment link, and ₹949 with a creator checkout that charges an all-in 5%. GST at 18% applies to the fee where the company charges it on top.
| Method | Fee | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| UPI to your own account | ₹0 | ₹999 |
| Cashfree (1.95% offer + GST) | ₹22.99 | ₹976.01 |
| Razorpay (2% + GST) | ₹23.58 | ₹975.42 |
| Instamojo payment link (2% + ₹3 + GST) | ₹27.12 | ₹971.88 |
| Peerseek (5%, processing included) | ₹49.95 | ₹949.05 |
The raw link is cheaper on paper by about ₹26 per sale. The next section shows what that ₹26 pays for.
Why a checkout page beats a UPI QR code or payment link
A UPI QR code and a payment link both stop at the same moment: the money arrives. Everything a creator actually sells happens after that. Here is who does that work in each setup.
| After the buyer pays | UPI ID or QR code | Gateway payment link | Peerseek checkout page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Payment confirmed | You check your bank app | Automatic | Automatic |
| Buyer gets the PDF, notes or course | You share it by hand | You share it by hand | Delivered automatically |
| Call slot booked with a meeting link | You fix a time in DMs and share a link | You fix a time in DMs and share a link | Buyer picks a slot, meeting link is created |
| Reminder before the call | You remember | You remember | Sent automatically |
| Link sent when someone comments PRICE | You reply to each comment | You reply to each comment | Free Instagram Auto DM sends it |
| A page that explains what they are buying | Not available | A basic payment page | A page per offer, plus one profile page with everything you sell |
Three things matter most for Instagram sellers:
- The sale finishes without you. A reel can get comments at 1 am. With a QR code, that buyer waits until you wake up, and some of them cool off. With a checkout page and Auto DM, the link goes out, the buyer pays and the order is delivered before you see the notification.
- Your bio sells for you. A QR code shows an amount. A checkout page shows what the call covers, what the ebook contains and the price, so people decide on the page instead of asking you in DMs.
- You know who your buyers are. Every sale lands in one dashboard with the buyer's name and email. Discount codes let you reward a reel audience, and you can add your Meta Pixel to your Peerseek page to see which ads bring buyers.
If you only sell twice a month, UPI works. Once you are spending evenings matching screenshots, chasing "paid?" messages and sending files one by one, the ₹26 per ₹999 sale costs less than the hours it saves.
How to add a payment link to your Instagram bio
- Copy your link: a gateway payment page, or your checkout page.
- Open Instagram, go to your profile and tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links, then Add external link.
- Paste the URL and give it a short title like "Book a call" or "Get the notes".
- Tap Done. The link is now clickable on your profile.
For a launch or a limited offer, also add the same link to a story with the link sticker, so people watching your stories can pay without visiting your profile.
Two things make the bio link work harder:
- Link to a page that has everything you sell, not a single payment amount. A one-off payment link in the bio goes stale the day your price changes.
- Say what it is in your bio text. "1:1 career calls, ₹999, link below" converts better than a bare URL, because people know what they are about to pay for.
How to take payment in Instagram DMs
Most Instagram sales start with "price?" in a DM or a comment. Reply with the link, not a negotiation.
A reply you can paste:
Hi! It's ₹999 for a 30-minute call. You can pick a slot and pay here: [your link]. You'll get the meeting link on email right after you pay.
Automate the reply. Ask people to comment a word like PRICE or NOTES on a reel. An auto DM tool replies to that comment with your link in their DMs within seconds, while the reel is still getting views. This is the single biggest change for anyone whose reels get more comments than they can answer.
Never deliver on a screenshot alone. Edited payment screenshots are a common trick. Confirm in your bank app or gateway dashboard first, or use a checkout that confirms and delivers by itself.
Set it up on Peerseek
Peerseek is free to start, with no subscription and no setup cost. You pay a flat 5% per sale with payment processing included, and nothing is added at payout. Here is the full setup from Instagram follower to money in your bank.
- Sign up. Create your Peerseek account and choose the Peerseek-powered payment gateway. There is no separate gateway account to set up.
- Create what you sell. A 1:1 call, a digital product, a course, a webinar, or Ask me for paid written answers. Set the price in rupees.
- Put your Peerseek profile link in your Instagram bio using the steps above. Everything you sell sits on that one page.
- Turn on Instagram Auto DM. Open Instagram Auto DM, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account, pick a reel or post, add a keyword like PRICE, and write the reply with your checkout link. It also works on story replies and DM keywords. Auto DM is free, with no DM caps.
- The buyer pays by UPI, card or netbanking without creating an account. They give a name, email and phone number at checkout.
- Delivery happens on its own. The file arrives, the call gets booked, the course unlocks.
- Add your bank account and withdraw. Each sale shows in your dashboard, moves to your withdrawable balance once its short hold period clears, and you withdraw it to your bank.
Two ready-made setups to copy: sell a PDF with an Instagram comment DM and collect consultation fees by UPI.
Who this is not for: if you ship physical products with sizes, stock and courier tracking, an online store builder fits better than a creator checkout.
Mistakes that lose you money
- Asking for payment before saying what they get. State the price, the format and the delivery time in the same message as the link.
- Bargaining in DMs. One price, one link. If you want to reward early buyers, use a coupon code, not a private discount.
- A bio link that goes to your WhatsApp. It adds a step and a wait. Send people to a page where they can pay right away.
- Letting comments go unanswered. Every "price?" comment you reply to two days late is a sale you probably lost.
- No record of buyers. If you take payment by UPI, at least keep a sheet. Your past buyers are the easiest people to sell your next thing to. Your records also matter for tax: invoicing and GST rules depend on your situation, so ask your accountant what to keep.
- Going live without a test. Before you post the link, buy your own offer once from a second phone with a small amount. Check that the payment lands and the buyer gets what they paid for.
- No delivery or refund line. Write one sentence each on when the buyer gets the order and what happens if something goes wrong, and put both on the page or in the DM.
The short version
To accept payment on Instagram in India, start with UPI for your first few sales, then move to a checkout link in your bio once orders come in every week. Send that link from your DMs and comments instead of collecting money by hand. If you want the link sent and the order delivered without you, set up a free Peerseek page and turn on Auto DM.
Instagram par payment kaise le?
Yeh section followers se payment lene ke baare mein hai. Instagram aapko reels ke liye jo payout deta hai, woh alag cheez hai.
Instagram khud India mein payment nahi leta. Isliye payment Instagram ke bahar hota hai: ya toh UPI ID ya QR code DM mein bhejo, ya Razorpay, Cashfree ya Instamojo ka payment link bhejo, ya bio mein ek checkout page lagao jahan follower UPI ya card se pay kare aur usse cheez apne aap mil jaye.
Shuruaat mein UPI se kaam chal jayega. Jab roz orders aane lage, toh checkout page lagao aur Auto DM se link bhejo, taaki aapko har screenshot check na karna pade. Peerseek par shuru karna free hai, har sale par sirf 5% lagta hai, payment processing ke saath.
FAQ
Can I receive payments through Instagram in India?+
Not inside the app. Meta's help centre says checkout on Instagram is only available in some countries and regions. Indian sellers take payment through UPI or a payment link outside the app and share it in their bio, stories or DMs. Instagram is where buyers find you, not where they pay.
How do I add a payment link to my Instagram bio?+
Go to your profile, tap Edit profile, then Links, then Add external link. Paste your payment page or checkout page URL, give it a title like "Book a call", and tap Done.
What is the cheapest way to accept payment on Instagram?+
UPI to your own account has no fee, but you confirm every payment and deliver every order yourself. Gateway payment links from Razorpay, Cashfree and Instamojo cost about 2% plus GST and confirm the payment for you.
How do I take payment in Instagram DMs automatically?+
Use an auto DM tool. Ask people to comment a keyword on your reel, and the tool replies in their DMs with your checkout link. The buyer pays on the checkout page, which confirms the payment and delivers the order.
Does Instagram take a cut when I use a payment link?+
No. When the buyer pays through your own UPI ID, gateway link or checkout page, Instagram is not part of the payment. Only the payment provider or platform you use charges a fee.
Can followers send money in an Instagram DM?+
Not in India. Instagram's in-app checkout is not available to Indian sellers, so a DM cannot carry the payment itself. Send a UPI ID, a payment link or your checkout page link in the DM, and the buyer pays there.
Can buyers outside India pay me from Instagram?+
UPI needs an Indian bank account, so most buyers abroad cannot use it. For international buyers you need a payment provider that accepts international cards. Check that your gateway or platform has it switched on for your account before you promote to an overseas audience.
Is it safe to share my UPI ID on Instagram?+
Sharing a UPI ID only lets people send you money. The real risk is fake payment screenshots. Always confirm the credit in your bank app or gateway dashboard before you deliver.
